Perseverance

Tarcoal and acrylics on oil sheet | 8.5" x 11"

Through this piece, I wanted to portray the importance of perseverance and self-resolution. There will always be risk, failure, and inner demons around every corner–but one has to keep pushing through. It’s worth it for what you love and what you believe in.

In this series, I create using tarcoal, which involves pouring out a viscous petroleum by-product onto an oil sheet, and using a paintbrush to skim away the excess to reveal the artwork underneath. Because of this “reductive method”, you work your way from dark to light–from the background to the foreground. A fitting medium to my study of perseverance.
