Ensnared

This is the latest piece in my series depicting the human condition. "Ensnared" by our past, unable to move forward into the future, we remain stuck in a point of time that, while comfortable, makes us uneasy. It's not truly the present—because the present is both fleeting and precarious. So, what are we to do?

In this series, I create using tarcoal, which involves pouring out a viscous petroleum by-product onto an oil sheet, and using a paintbrush to skim away the excess to reveal the artwork underneath. Because of this “reductive method”, you work your way from dark to light–from the background to the foreground.
