Dreaming

Tarcoal and acrylics on oil sheet | 18" x 22"

This is the third piece in my series studying human emotion. Amplified by the pandemic, I wanted to look at the dualistic nature of our dreams... not only those lost, but also the new aspirations gained from opportunities that have presented themselves. How do they weave together to give us hope for the future?

In this series, I create using tarcoal, which involves pouring out a viscous petroleum by-product onto an oil sheet, and using a paintbrush to skim away the excess to reveal the artwork underneath. Because of this “reductive method”, you work your way from dark to light–from the background to the foreground.
